UBC Neighbourhood Challenge

Challenge:

Answer all the questions below by visiting different points of interest on the UBC Vancouver campus.

  1. Read the plaques at the base of the Musqueam post. What is the name of the artist who carved the post?
  2. Martha Piper Plaza (at the intersection of Main Mall and University Boulevard) is named in honour of a former UBC president. Over which years was Martha Piper president of UBC?
  3. Visit the Great Trek Cairn on Main Mall. What was the date of the Great Trek?
  4. What are the names of the two libraries on either side of Koerner plaza?

Museum of Anthropology (MOA) Challenge

Challenge:

Museum of Anthropology (MOA) Challenge (one stamp) MOA is temporarily closed for Great Hall seismic upgrades until Summer 2024. Find the answer to the MOA challenge online; you do NOT need to visit MOA to complete this challenge and you cannot collect stamps there. You can collect one stamp for MOA’s online challenge ONLY at the UBC Welcome Centre.

  1. When did MOA temporarily close to complete its Great Hall seismic upgrades, and when does it expect to reopen again to the public? Provide the months and years.

Nitobe Memorial Garden OR Greenhart TreeWalk Challenge (located in UBC Botanical Garden)

Number of stamps: 1
(Note that you may collect only one stamp for this challenge–from either Nitobe or the TreeWalk, but not both.)

Nitobe Memorial Garden Challenge:

Visit the Nitobe Memorial Garden and answer the following question.

  1. What association does the plaque outside Nitobe’s gates honour?

Where to collect stamps:

For the Nitobe challenge, please collect your stamp at the UBC Welcome Centre after visiting the garden, not at Nitobe itself.

Greenhart TreeWalk Challenge:

Visit the Greenhart TreeWalk and ask staff at the attraction entrance for the challenge.

  • Tip: The Greenhart TreeWalk is located within the UBC Botanical Garden, so you can visit the TreeWalk while you’re at the Botanical Garden.

Beaty Biodiversity Museum Challenge

Challenge:

Take a photo of a cool specimen you saw in the Beaty Biodiversity Museum and show it to the staff, or tell them about what you saw, to get your stamp.
